About the Journal of Literacy and Technology

Journal of Literacy and Technology is an online, peer-reviewed international academic journal exploring the complex relationship between literacy and technology in educational, public, workplace, and individual spheres. Founded in 2000, the Journal of Literacy and Technology provides scholarship on interdisciplinary contexts pertinent to novel ways to look at literacy and digital culture.

Journal of Literacy and Technology is part of EBSCO database and invites original academic scholarship, feature articles, and book reviews that overtly focus on complex relationships between literacy and technology, including, but not limited to, the following areas of research:

  • Gaming, Education and Literacy 
  • Digital Humanities 
  • Web Research and Theory 
  • Rhetoric, Technology & Literacy New Library Studies

Due to the peer-review system, please do not insert any information indicating author(s) of the submission. Make sure your submission follows APA style of reference.

Submission Preparation Checklist (Updated June 2024)

Papers should follow APA rules with the following exceptions:

Use Times New Roman font for all text. Justify paragraphs.

  • Title: Upper and lower case, Bold, Font 14
  • Double space
  • Abstract center, justify text, font 10. Justify five spaces for right and left.
  • Keywords: Italics, right justify, alphabetical order, font 10, all words lowercase, indent five spaces.
  • Authors names: 12 font center. Name first line. Email second line.
  • Double space
  • Level 1 headings – bold 12 font center. Double space before and after heading.
  • Level 2 headings – bold 12 font, left justified. Double space before and after heading.
  • Paragraphs: single space, 12 font, no indent. Double space between paragraphs.
  • Paragraph quotes double space before and after.
  • Bullets: double space before and after.
  • References use APA latest version formatting. Double space between citations.
  • Use APA for tables. Make the lines single space. Embedded tables into the document.
  • Images. Use APA. Embedded into the appropriate location within the document.

Guidance in the use of AI for JL&T Articles

Tip 1: Please use your grammar checkers! To locate the grammar in Word is located under file. Go to options. Select Proof. Make sure to check the options located in the settings for grammar.

Tip 2: The use of AI for writing of the text is not an acceptable practice in the submission of journal articles. The writing must be original.

Tip 3: If you use AI, use APA guidelines at How to cite ChatGPT (apa.org)

Guidelines for Self-Citation

  1. Papers with more than 2 self-citations for an article will be rejected.
  2. Citations must be based on the results of a previous study are acceptable.
  3. Citations can refer to a model or process that the author created are also acceptable.
